Environment Minister Arthur Hodgson.

Mr. Hodgson received the award on Thursday for putting into effect the Government listing of buildings for their special architectural or historical interest.

The award, given for service to the community, was given during the Trust's Annual General Meeting.

St. David's Primary School was singled out for its long practice of including environmental education in the curriculum. A handful of students were on hand with teachers to collect the Michael Darling Shield.

Educational certificates went to Devonshire Preschool, Clearwater Middle School and Southampton Preschool.

Awards for community service went to Ian Murdoch and Andy Fields. Mr. Murdoch, with the help of the Bermuda Zoological Society, created eight permanent mooring sites for use by snorkellers and divers. These moorings protect the coral from anchor damage.

Andy Fields has organised and run the Audubon Society Camp for the past ten years. Head of social studies at CedarBridge Academy, Mr. Fields was also recognised for what the Trust described as "his ability to give children a desire to learn about Bermuda's environment''.
