Hotel and Business studies are popular
Boasting the largest number of full time students at the Bermuda College is the department of Hotel & Business Administration. Headed up by Dean Duranda Burgess, she says "the programmes offered within the faculty are vast and cover a broad range of skills required to be successful in these two industries.'' Pointing out that international business and tourism "are the two major pillars of our economy'' Ms Burgess said her department is well poised for "the approach of the Year 2000 and will play a pivotal role in helping to sustain Bermuda's two major industries.'' Proud of the calibre of students her department has produced Ms Burgess outlined some of the accomplishments.
"We are proud of our alumni who have transferred to Acadia University, Cornell University, Johnson & Wales, the College of Insurance and St. Mary's University to name a few.
"They have made the President's List or the Dean's List while overseas, and have graduated with honours.'' she said.
"This year one of our first graduates from our new insurance programme earned the distinction of being valedictorian at The College of Insurance graduation exercises, having earned the highest grade point average among the undergraduate class.'' Looking to the future Ms Burgess foresees an increased number of success stories. "During the next millennium, you will continue to see our alumni in such prominent positions as hotel general managers, partners in accounting firms, vice presidents in international business, executive chefs......'' Dean Duranda Burgess is proud of the alumi from the Bermuda College. Many have entered excellent universities abroad.
