Hotels urged to support students
hospitality industry.
This was the message as the Elbow Beach Hotel presented two $5,000 scholarships to Bermudian students studying the industry at university.
Mr. Graham Mawer is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree at Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island, and Mr. Stanley Harris will begin a hotel and restaurant programme at the University of Massachusetts. He has just completed a hotel management diploma at Bermuda College.
A luncheon was held in their honour last week.
Hotel Employers of Bermuda president Mr. David Dodwell congratulated the young men on their achievement. He said that more hotel owners and managers needed to offer scholarships and encourage students to apply for them.
"I hope other companies get on the scholarship bandwagon,'' added Mr.
Dodwell. "It is the single most important thing to foster the tourism industry.'' Elbow Beach has been sponsoring scholarships for over 20 years.
