Island artists prove a success in New York
and his daughter Jo Birdsey Linberg has been held in New York City.
During the exhibition, held at the Union League Club last month, a silent auction of some of Mrs. Linberg's recent watercolours was held, with partial proceeds going to The Robert Hampton Tapp foundation which provides scholarship assistance to deserving students.
Thirty five paintings by the late Mr. Birdsey were displayed, and 18 paintings by his daughter were sold.
The exhibition and sale were arranged by E. Nicholson Stewart, who lent the Birdsey paintings from the collections of his family and his company.
Mr. Stewart, who is former president of The Union Club and a co-founder, chairman and chief executive officer of the investment management firm Trevor Stewart Burton & Jacobsen Inc. New York, said: "We have enjoyed and collected the works of Alfred Birdsey and his daughter Jo since the 1950's and four generations of my family now have them.
"The members and guests of the Union League Club enjoyed the opportunity to see the exhibition and bid on some of Jo's works, all the while contributing to a worthy cause.
"Simultaneously it provided a great deal of exposure for Bermuda and its best-known artist family.''
