Johnny featured in UK press
a feature on the Island's well-known roundabout ambassador.
Johnny Barnes was featured in a travel article in the November 6 issue of The Daily Telegraph which was written by a recent visitor to the Island, Nicholas Roe.
The article focuses on Mr. Barnes' morning exercise -- waving to and shouting "I love yous'' at rush hour commuters heading in and out of Hamilton from his post on the Trimingham Hill North Roundabout -- and how it developed.
The Spirit of Bermuda statue in Mr. Barnes' honour is mentioned in the article in the context that the only other commemorative piece on the Island is of Bermuda's founder Sir George Somers.
And the article stresses how special Bermuda is by pointing out that Mr.
Barnes' "Kingdom of Love'' could probably not exist anywhere but here.
The writer noted that if Mr. Barnes took his act to an overseas roundabout, he would be "moved on smartish''.
However "here in Bermuda, where men are almost absurdly courteous, virtues such as universal love are valued highly'', Mr. Roe wrote.
