Awards for excellence in journalism.
The cash awards, which take the name of former Royal Gazette chairman Cmdr.
Guy Ridgway, cover stories reported during 1992.
The winner in the news category was Ms Rebecca Zuill of the Mid-Ocean News for her story on abuse suspected in the death of a child.
Second place for news was shared by Royal Gazette reporter Mr. John Millard, who reported on yachtswoman Anita Page's lifetime voyage ending in disaster on South Shore rocks, and the Mid-Ocean 's Ms Louise Foister for her story on a pregnant woman's complaint against her sacking by Dr. Ewart Brown.
The first prize for feature writing was won by Gazette sports editor Mr.
Dexter Smith, who reported on South Africa's return to the Olympic scene.
Business reporters Mr. David Marchant and Mrs. Robin Zuill shared second place for their series on new economic realities. Mrs. Zuill is now senior writer for RG Magazine.
Mr. David Skinner won the photography prize for capturing Mr. Ted Ming reuniting with his family moments after he was cleared of drugs charges.
An honourable mention was made to the editorial staff for its coverage of the Bermuda Industrial Union's summertime strike action.
The awards, which were presented by Mrs. June Stanton, daughter of Cmdr.
Ridgway, presented first place winners with $500 and second place winners with $250 each.
