Letter from the Minister of Tourism

The Bermuda Tourism industry is on the threshold of a dynamic new era and is poised to be even more competitive as we in Bermuda move to address the challenges of the new millennium.

With the engagement of the Monitor Company, the restructuring of the Visitor Industry Partnership, and the implementation of the five-year Strategic Marketing and Business Plan, there has been an unprecedented participation from a much broader representation by the entire community.

This process will continue and ensure that there is an even more effective management of the industry when the Bermuda Tourism Authority becomes a reality by the end of this year.

That said, I am more than delighted that the Royal Gazette has seen the merit in paying tribute to the many heroes in the Tourism industry, who each day, go about the business of ensuring that our visitors have a memorable experience.

As Minister of Tourism, I enthusiastically thank those whose profiles appear with this special Tourism supplement -- Faces in Bermuda.

At the same time, I would not want us to forget the hundreds and thousands of others whose names do not appear in this particular supplement, but who are the starch in the fabric of Bermuda's first and foremost business.

They, and you, are so critical to our continued social and economic well-being.

Let us all work together even more, in order to ensure the future success of Tourism in Bermuda.
