Lions hold induction day
induction day on Saturday.
Lions, Lionesses and Leos of Bermuda will gather at the Grotto Bay Hotel at 7.30 a.m. for a prayer breakfast as ceremonies will be held simultaneously around the world to celebrate Lions Clubs International's first Lions Worldwide Induction Day for its new members.
Lions Club International has more than 1.4 million members representing more than 43,000 clubs in 185 countries.
Bermuda Zone chairman Albert Thompson explained that the day was significant for several reasons.
"As we welcome our newest members we feel that it is appropriate to share the pride of what being a member means,'' Mr. Thompson said, "and to underscore the importance of getting involved, helping our neighbours in need and building a closer community here in Bermuda.'' Since the introduction of Lionisim in Bermuda in 1946 under the leadership of the late Lion W.F. (Chummy) Hayward, Lions, Lioness and Leo Clubs of Bermuda have sponsored various fund raising and community activities, including Sight Screening for pre-school children, Diabetes Awareness and Screening, the Lions Quest Programme to help students develop various skills, blood blank drives, and support for the Beacon House for the blind.
Members and friends are invited to participate in the prayer breakfast on Saturday. Tickets for the full breakfast are $18.
Anyone wishing to participate should contact, by today, Lion Dudley Cottingham on 292-7478 or 236-8155, Lion Larry Dixon on 297-7756 or 293-2602, or Lioness Scymone DeVent on 299-3830 or 232-0822.
