Local artist in Caribbean exhibition
islands beginning this weekend.
Paintings by Mike Swan, Otto Trott, Vaughn Evans, Sharon Wilson and Jill Raine will feature in a travelling exhibition called Carib Art. They will be exhibited with artwork from 35 other Caribbean countries.
An independent panel of local judges chose the entries out of 43 works submitted by 16 artists.
The show begins this weekend in Curacao and moves to another island at the end of August.
A three-year tour is planned for the exhibition and Cultural Affairs Officer Miss Ruth Thomas said she hoped Bermuda would be on the circuit.
Cultural Affairs Minister the Hon. Leonard Gibbons this week praised the quality of work by the Bermuda artists.
"Bermuda should feel especially proud of the fact that our first-class artists have this unique opportunity to show their work to the world,'' he said.
Both Mr. Gibbons and Miss Thomas, who organised the local submissions, will be in Curacao for the opening ceremony.
