March is the time for planting
vegetables is every gardeners dream.
With spring right around the corner, anyone who wants to see their garden overflowing with lovely flowers and healthy vegetables should break out the garden gloves and spade and get busy planting.
The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries recommends that the following flowers and vegetables be planted sometime in the month of March: Flowers: Bachelor's buttons, begonia, carnations, chrysanthemum, dahlia, African daisy, forget-me-not, geranium, gypsophila, hollyhocks, larkspur, African and French marigolds, nasturtium, pansy, petunia, phlox, rose everlasting, statice, spider flower, stock, sweet pea, sweet William, verbena and viola.
Vegetables: Beans, beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, sweet corn, cucumbers, cantaloupe, egg plant, endive, kale, lettuce, melons, okra, parsley, peppers, pumpkin, rutabaga, spinach, squash, thyme, tomatoes, turnip, watercress and watermelon.
