The Insurance Marketing Communications Association (IMCA), a US marketing association of property and casualty insurers that was founded in 1923, selected XL for eight awards in six categories.

Topping the charts was XL's music video "Risk Manager Blues'', which won the annual Sammy Award -- the entry voted by the 278-member organisation to have made the greatest contribution to marketing communications in property & casualty insurance.

"Risk Manager Blues'' won best in category in marketing/sales promotion directed to business consumers, and also for audio/visual communications.

The slick rock video, first unveiled during XL's 10th anniversary celebrations and later at April's RIMS Conference in Toronto two months ago, portrays the concerns of risk managers and how XL is meeting their needs.

It was just one out of the four video productions completed by the company, which collectively won in the communications campaign category and the audio/visual communications category.

The other video productions included a client focus video, which consisted of risk managers explaining what they wanted from their insurer; an XL response to those concerns by its underwriters; and three 30-second TV ads.

The tenth anniversary newspaper advertisement, honouring employees won an award of excellence in the public relations category.

The RIMS reception invitation and pre-paid telephone cards each won awards of excellence in the convention support materials category.
