Ming to return for show

Britain's art community, is returning to his birthplace for a one-man show at the National Gallery.

And it is expected the Queen will view the exhibition during her upcoming visit.

The show opens on March 4 and runs for six weeks, a gallery spokesperson said.

Mr. Ming, who in 1992 achieved the honour of being named first holder of the Liverpool John Moores University Fellowship, is currently the subject of a documentary by a British film maker who hopes to have it shown on the BBC and Channel 4 in Britain.

Mr. Andrew Mckay said in a statement that he was also hoping to film events in Bermuda during Mr. Ming's visit, which would give the documentary "international significance''.

He started making the documentary after learning of Mr. Ming's commission to produce a bronze sculpture for the City of Nottingham.

Mr. Mckay is filming the making of the sculpture from conception to completion.

He then plans to follow 50-year-old Mr. Ming to Bermuda for his one-man show and explore "the complexity of cultural identity as the sculptor returns home and confronts his past history and present success.'' Mr. Ming has been living in England since 1971.

He studied at Mansfield College of Art and gained his degree in Sculpture and Creative Writing from Maidstone College of Art in 1979.

Since then he has worked as a sculptor and fine artist in Newark in Nottinghamshire.

He recently held a successful major solo exhibition at the Bluecoats Arts Centre in Liverpool.
