One of the holders of the Miss World franchise in Bermuda, hotelier Mr. John Jefferis, yesterday confirmed that he will be organising a Miss Bermuda Islands contest this year.

Mr. Jefferis said the competition, to be held in late summer, would be "very special''. The date and place are yet to be decided on though, he said. Mr.

Jefferis said he would take advice from Government on whether the winner of the Miss Bermuda Islands contest should go to South Africa for the Miss World contest.

The three holders of the Miss World franchise failed to organise a Miss Bermuda Islands contest last year.

Apart from Mr. Jefferis, the holders of the franchise include Bermuda Hotel Association executive Mr. John Harvey and art studio owner Mr. Joe Tee.

Organisers of the Miss World beauty contest said last Saturday they planned to hold it in South Africa.

The decision followed an agreement between the British holders of the rights to the pageant, Mr. and Mrs. Eric Morley, and Sun International, an enterprise which operates a resort at Sun City in the nominally independent South African homeland of Bophuthatswana.

Mr. Eric Morley told Reuters the political change in South Africa had made it possible to hold the contest there.

The competition is shown on television in 50 countries. South Africa has been excluded from the Miss World contest from 1977 until last year.

Miss Bermuda, Colita Joseph, represents the Island in the Miss Universe contest which is being held in Bangkok, Thailand, a week from today.
