Mixed media show at Windjammer
The Windjammer Gallery is anticipating a very strong show in the watercolour and mixed media exhibition which opens today.
Windjammer owner Susan Curtis said the show, which will run for two weeks, features the works of Amy Evans and Karen Phillips Curran.
"Amy and Karen have both had exhibitions with us in the past, and both tend to work in the layer format with bold images,'' said Mrs. Curtis.
"Karen is almost exclusively `architecturally focused' while Amy is equally content in the landscape.'' Mrs. Evans, born in Northern Ireland, has lived in Bermuda since 1968 and taught both at the Bermuda College and BHS before becoming a full-time artist.
She is an artist best known for her watercolours, but she has previously produced work in other media such as batik and monoprinting.
"Although my paintings are varied in subject matter, when I travel I search out for visual things that would make good painting... (my paintings are) often about how light affects surfaces, whether it's foliage, walls, or weathered wood,'' said Mrs. Evans.
She noted that some of her works were inspired by travel to Puerto Rico, Portugal, Spain and Grenada.
Mrs. Phillips Curran, who has worked in the Canadian Ottawa Valley since 1964, said the interplay between light and shade inspires her -- which makes Bermuda an ideal place to work since there's lots of light and attractive colours.
She's brought about 20 pieces of artwork, 12 of which will be on display at the Gallery.
