Collie Coleman, 12 Bermudians received scholarships to the US southern university in January.

And this week Sen. Woolridge revealed that 74 additional students will begin classes at the university on August 21.

Sen. Woolridge said the additional students were chosen because of the success of the original 12 and because the 123-year-old historically black university had a tradition of "providing opportunities for a good education for its students and preparing them for this competitive society in which we live''.

Allen University is fully accredited with the Southern Association of Commission on Colleges.

Sen. Woolridge said he believed the relationship between Bermuda and the university would benefit all concerned and he looked forward to Bermudian students returning home to assume "their rightful place of leadership in all spheres of Bermudian life''.
