No-kicks campaign for men-in-drag

NEWS FLASH -- Nutty general leads in the presidential polls -- future of rock 'n roll music endangered -- time-travelling Elvis impersonator, nerdy founding father, and stuttering hairdresser the nation's only hope! Yup, you guessed it -- it's the return of Harvard University's Hasty Pudding Production, now in its 151st year.

Following in the wake of last year's Shakespearian tribute, this season's US-based men-in-drag show "I Get No Kick From Campaign'' has the company's usual arsenal of "pun-runs'' and cleverly-named characters such as buxom campaign manager Wanda Bra, politically-aspiring barber Polly Tishun and Geri Attrick, a 102-year-old woman who claims to have had affairs with more than 20 US presidents.

The show focuses in on an Elvis impersonator from the year 2099 who time-travels to 1787 to get founding fathers to stop a loony general from becoming president and outlawing rock 'n roll.

When they return to the year 2000, everything's up for grabs as they attempt to groom Polly Tishun -- who has a horrendous stuttering problem -- into the next American president.

Although the performance promises to be a story of "political posturing, lustful liaisons, and titillating time-travel'', co-producer Carolyn Cassidy said the selection of the script was made prior to the Clinton scandal.

However, she assured that the script, which includes performances by the "inappropriately attractive and conveniently impressionable young intern'' Stella Virgin, had been appropriately adapted to fully exploit the happy accident of Lewinsky-gate.

"This year's cast is very strong vocally, but there are also a lot of comedians in the cast, so each night will be a little different,'' said Ms Cassidy.

"We've got great costumes, an outrageous scripts, and some really creative pun-runs,'' she added.

The performance is at the City Hall Theatre tonight, Saturday and Monday evenings at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, and student rates are available. Tickets can be purchased at the Visitor's Service Bureau or at City Hall one hour before the show.
