Office staff raise money for School

School needs additional financial support, according to BHS development director Ms Judy Masters. It is through the development office that BHS achieves auxiliary funds. And thanks to parents, old girls, friends and businesses, just under $200,000 is donated to the School ever year. An annual appeal goes out to the community and the development office manages the financial response, said Ms Masters, adding that the development office deals with a wide range of activities, all of which are very administrative. The School's most recent campaign was for money to build the new wing. Said Ms Masters: "We're still accepting pledges from the public. But the campaign is winding down.'' The development office is busy working on a new project this centenary year, said Ms Masters, noting that a planned giving programme is being established so people can leave gifts to the School in their will. The development office is also involved in marketing for the school. And everything from newspaper advertising and press releases to brochures and special invitations are produced through the office. The development office also puts out two magazines a year including The Torchbearers and the BHS Bulletin. "They are mailed to all school constituents,'' said Ms Masters, noting that the magazines help to keep old girls and associates updated on BHS activities. She added: "We maintain a data base of almost 5,000 people including all of our old girls.'' The development office has also in the past helped to organise events like career fairs, science fairs and Grandparents Day. Judy Masters, Win Wright and Judith Swain, all of whom are part-time employees, make up the development office personnel. Instrumental in getting people involved in the School, these devoted staff members clearly help build the character and success associated with BHS.
