market, the Minister of Transport has ruled.

Recent shipments are to hit showrooms as the deadline set by Dr. Ewart Brown approaches.

In November he told Parliament "procedural irregularities'' led to the illegal importation of oversize cars last year and said the irregularities "won't be happening again''.

But he said Government "continues to discuss the idea of increasing the size dimensions'' of cars.

Dealers have raised concerns that manufacturers have been steadily increasing the size of their smaller models which are some of the larger models for Bermuda's roads.

When contacted, President of the HWP Group, Jonathan Brewin denied that a shipment of Opels and Mitsubishis would have to be sent back to the manufacturer.

Mr. Brewin explained that Government had granted permission until January 31 for outsize cars.

"No, nothing is being held up on the docks,'' he said. "The current model of Opel is slightly exceeding the law and because we had an agreement before to bring them in we are being allowed to do so.

"They were already in the pipeline,'' he added.
