groundwork for a community centre geared toward helping neighbourhood youth.

About 60 members parents, ministers, community leaders and as well as St.

George's South MP Rick Spurling and Youth and Sport Minister John Barritt attended a meeting at Clearwater Middle School last Wednesday.

Heather Foggo and Roseann Pitcher said the group was looking into a centre which could offer a place for football, basketball, karate lessons, drama and art lessons, and indoor games such as table tennis and pool.

The youth centre, which will target teens between the ages of 13 and 19, is expected to receive the support of the Youth and Sport ministry and the Bermuda Land Development Company once it is formally incorporated.

And the group looking to form the youth centre is also considering plans to eventually establish a senior citizen's club.

Addressing the youths present, Mrs. Pitcher said: "We are sorry if we have not been there for you before, but life is not always kind...it is time for new beginnings.'' Mr. Spurling said he "fully supported'' the efforts and encouraged organisers to consider creative solutions such as utilising Clearwater's school facilities.

And he said now that the former US base lands were available for use by the community, the possibilities were "endless''.
