Party time at the aquarium
one of the most unusual venues in Bermuda party history.
Sophisticated party animals, paying from $100 to $500 per head, will spread out among the lesser species on display, munching smoked salmon by the fish tanks and drinking Black Seal by the black seal pool.
The "Bermuda Zoofari'' is designed to raise money for the new education programmes and exhibits at the Aquarium.
The event, which begins at 7:30 p.m., will feature the music of a string quartet, Mr. Shine Hayward, the Somers Isle Jazz Band, Mr. Blackie Talbot playing calypso guitar and Mr. Craig (Bubbles) Darrell as DJ.
Food includes a shrimp bar, steamship of beef, Mexican fare from Rosa's Cantina, pasta from Little Venice, stir fry from the MarketPlace and Mikado's, barbecued wahoo and tuna and chicken sate.
In addition to the regular exhibits, a "nursery zoo'' will be open displaying baby animals recently born at the Aquarium, and the "touching'' zoo will also be open. Seals, alligators and lemurs will be fed during the party.
There is a wide range of games and raffles and prizes, and cartoonist Mr. Walt Horton will be drawing caricature cartoons of party guests as their favourite animals.
There is a wide range of prizes, including several Delta Airline tickets and a carriage ride around Harrington Sound with dinner at Tom Moore's Tavern.
The idea, of course, is to raise money for the Aquarium. But it's more than just raising money, said Mrs. Jane West, one of the organisers.
"The idea is to heighten adult awareness of the aquarium, so that people take advantage of it even if they don't have little children.'' Anyone interested in tickets should contact the Aquarium. The fund-raising tickets are the Angel Fish for $1,000 a couple, the Sergeant Major at $500 a couple, the Slippery Dick at $300 a couple, while Yellow Grunts are $100 a person.
PARTY FAVOURS -- Mrs. Vanessa Shorto displays two giraffes she made with Mrs.
Barbara Finsness and carpenter Mr. Joe Pereira. They will decorate a wine stall at this Saturday's Aquarium and Zoo fundraiser.
