Passerby helps mother-to-be get to the hospital on time
A woman expecting twins had a startling early morning false alarm after experiencing labour pains on a drive into Hamilton.
The mother-to-be, was driving alone along Kindley Field Road yesterday when she started to get pains in her stomach. She pulled over and a kind passerby helped summon assistance.
The pedestrian, who was walking alongside the airport, noticed the lady bent double and flagged down a passing police car. The officer immediately called for medical help and a unit from Clearwater station attended.
An ambulance was soon on the scene, shortly before 9 a.m., and after rendering oxygen to the lady, she was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for observation.
A Police spokesman said she did not give birth and was likely to be released last night.
FRONT STREET SUPERMARKET COULD EXPAND PLN Front Street supermarket could expand A Hamilton supermarket could expand if a neighbouring business is given permission to change its use.
The Supermart on Front Street is waiting to see if a small neighbouring property, owned by Karl Madl, can have its use changed by the Department of Planning from retail to service commercial.
The change would enable the supermarket to expand into the neighbouring building as supermarkets in Bermuda are listed for service commercial, where as other shops are listed as retail.
Mr. Madl has requested the change and is waiting to hear the result.
Owner of The Supermart, Tredick Gorham, said he had no plans at the moment to expand the 45-year-old store, but was waiting for the result of the application for change of use.
He said: "I have not spent any time thinking about it yet. If it works out that Mr. Madl's building is of use to us then we will consider expanding.
"But it's certainly not something that I would say we are definitely thinking about doing.
"We are expecting to hear within the next few weeks and will take it from there.'' MAN COUGHS UP CTS Man coughs up A security guard was fined $1,000 for possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia in Magistrates' Court.
