according to Community and Cultural Affairs Minister the Hon. Leonard Gibbons it is the most popular theme yet.
"There is a tremendous amount of enthusiasm for this year's heritage celebrations,'' Mr. Gibbons said yesterday in announcing the theme and events for the month of May.
Highlights of the 10th annual Heritage Month include several re-runs of popular television programmes by Panatel on Bermuda's cultural heritage, including The Gombey, Bermuda Caves and Visual Arts. There will also be one new television programme, The Four-Faced Liar, which is about the restoration of the clock in the Clocktower, Dockyard. All the programmes will be shown on ZBM Channel 9 (cable 3).
On May 4 The Bermuda Society of Arts Gallery in the City Hall will feature an exhibition of black and white photographs taken by secondary school students as well a collection of photographs of Bermuda's people put together by the Heritage Advisory Council.
Other events set for the month include the Bermudian magazine's heritage issue, the Youth and Sport Ministry's annual Youth Service at the National Stadium on May 10 and heritage concerts at several local churches.
The month culminates with the start of fitted dinghy racing in St. George's Harbour on May 24, followed by the Bermuda Day Parade and Marathon Derby on May 25.
