Heroes when it holds its fourth annual Celebration to Honour the Late Rev. Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr. this Saturday.
The event is to be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at St. Paul AME Church Centennial Hall.
Mr. Julian Hall will recite Dr. King's famous "I have a dream'' speech, which he delivered during a huge march on Washington DC in August of 1963.
Recipients of Drum Major Awards will include: Mr. Gary Darrell for his involvement in the community and sports; Mrs. June Tuzo and Ms Martica Wilson for the formation of the Warwick United Majorettes and youth development; Teen Services for 25 years of outstanding service to teenagers, and for promoting discussions of importance at their annual Teen Conference; and St.
George's businessman Mr. Kenneth Bascome for his contribution to the community at large.
The awards are so titled because of Dr. King's description of himself as a "drum major for peace, justice, and righteousness.'' In addition to the speech and awards, there will be activities for children and adults. Local writers will be among those in attendance to sign autographs. There will also be displays of arts and crafts, door prizes, and refreshments.
