Poets by the dozen!
poetry competition this weekend, so committee member Andra Simons urges those interested in chasing the $150 first prize to arrive early.
"There will be no pre-registration, so it will be a case of the first 12 to sign up being entered,'' he says.
The Rock Room at Oasis in the Emporium Building on Front Street is the venue, the starting time is 9 p.m., and bar service will be available.
"The event is in the spirit of the late Mr. Lee Edmead's poetry competition, but we haven't taken that over,'' Mr. Simons explains. "We are tailoring it to our regular Flow Sunday, so it will be more laid back.'' There will be five judges, four of whom have already been appointed. The fifth will be chosen from the audience on the night.
"Every year we try to do something to celebrate existing for another year,'' Mr. Simons says. "We have moved three times in three years, and we rely on donations at our regular Flow Sundays to keep us going.'' Admission to the competition is free, but donations towards the future survival of Flow Sunday will be welcomed.
The two-hour event is being hosted by Mr. Simons (himself a poet) and DJ Beatnik.
