Police rev up for motorcycle course
instruction last week, the Bermuda Police Service reported on Friday.
To mark the event, a "low-key passing-out parade'' was scheduled for 4 p.m.
on Friday afternoon at the Cadet Training School in Prospect. Families and friends were invited to participate.
Starting yesterday, moreover, the Service began a standard motorcycle course with somewhat of a difference -- none of the participants will be in Police uniform.
Instead, the Service's Community Relations Office reported, trainees John Greenslade, Richard Outerbridge and Denis Glasford will be wearing Police fluorescent jackets for easy identification. The training programme also marks the "very first time civilian employees of the Transport Control Department will join a Police mechanic on an intensive motorcycle course.'' *** In arts news, meanwhile, US-born artist Mr. Bob Herr kicked off an exhibition recently at the Bermuda Society of Arts' Harbour Gallery, the first solo showing for the painter in Bermuda.
Consisting entirely of oils on canvas, the exhibition will continue in the Pitts Bay Road showroom until August 31.
Having taken up his painting at a very early age, Mr. Herr worked for a time in the US advertising business, eventually owning his own ad agency. He has lived in Bermuda since 1962.
*** On Friday, the Bermuda Diabetes Association will host a pirate party cruise to Hawkins Island aboard the MV Georgiana .
Leaving from Albuoy's Point at 7 p.m., the cruise, which includes two drinks, a buffet dinner and entertainment, costs $45 a person.
Tickets can be purchased through the TB, Cancer and Health Association.
Interested parties should call 293-2269 after 6 p.m., 236-4134 or 292-1595.
*** The Lions Club of Hamilton, meanwhile, is presently trying to increase its ranks.
"We welcome,'' a recent statement from the service organisation said, "new members who share our commitment to those less fortunate.'' Anyone who is interested in joining the Lions should phone Mr. Marc Morabito at 295-3544 or Ms Marian Sherratt at 292-4990.
