Premier Smith to open Commissioner's House
public by Premier Jennifer Smith today following 25 years of work.
She will dedicate the house at 4.30 p.m. after a day long celebration. The 19th century home has not been open to the public in 25 years.
The celebration, which is open to the public, will include festivities and the public are invited to attend, free of charge, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Visitors will be able to tour the house where exhibits will illustrate historical periods in Bermuda's history.
Topics include slavery, the trans-Atlantic slave trade, Portuguese-Bermudian history, the Newport-Bermuda Yacht Race and the cruise of the HMS Vindictive paintings.
There will also be shows put on by Dolphin Quest, dance performances by the Portuguese and Filipino communities, games and story-telling. Museum curator Charlotte Andrews said: "Our open house will have something for the whole family -- from our new exhibits on Bermuda's history, to fun activities planned for the whole day.
"It will be a great day of fun and learning, and a chance to see the exciting changes happening at the museum,'' she added.
