Premiere to open in Bermuda

The film, made in Bermuda about ocean explorer William Beebe, will benefit the Bermuda Zoological Society (BZS) and is sponsored by Colonial Insurance Group and Capital G.

The first audience on earth to see Master Of The Abyss will be those who attend the world premiere event on Monday, February 28, at City Hall Theatre, where doors open at 6.30 p.m. for a 7.15 p.m. start of the hour long documentary.

A panel discussion with filmmakers follows the screening. Panel members include: screenwriter Gary Lang from CineNova in Toronto, who researched and wrote the documentary; John Barker, who built the bathysphere replica used in the film; representatives of Hyper Productions, who coordinated the film; David Wingate of Nonsuch Island, where much of the documentary was made; and Jack Ward, principal curator of the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo, also used for location shooting.

Mr. Ward said: "We're excited that the filmmakers came to us with the opportunity to premiere this beautiful National Geographic documentary here in Bermuda where it was made. We hope people will come to the event to meet the filmmakers who captured the explorer's extraordinary story in a way that both educates and inspires.'' Those who cannot attend the world premiere screening and discussion with filmmakers will still have an opportunity to see Master Of The Abyss. It will air on Tuesday , February 29, VSB Channel 11/Cable 4 at 8 p.m.

The Television production is sponsored by Capital G and Colonial Insurance Group. Starting in March, Master Of The Abyss will air in Canada and Europe.

There are no plans to show the film in the United States.
