Bermuda will be hosting a celebration of Race Unity Day this Sunday.

This year's Race Unity Day festivities include a free concert in Victoria Park, a 5K adult walk, a 2K children's team run and a Parade of Nations.

The George Symonds trio will kick off at 3.30 p.m., and some of the artists who will be performing include Fires of Africa, Voices of Triumph, Suzuki Violin Ensemble, SHE, Deletta Gillespie, Bermuda Youth Jazz Band and more.

The aim of Race Unity Day, which was initiated by the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is in the US, is to challenge racial prejudice and promote "the oneness of mankind''.

"There are many diverse cultural and ethnic groups who represent present day Bermuda -- English, Portuguese, Filipino, Italian, West Indian, Scottish, Chinese, Japanese, African -- and over the years the groups have appeared in our Race Unity concerts in the park,'' said organising committee member Derick Symonds.

The 5K adult walk will begin at 7 a.m., and registration will be a half-hour before the event in Victoria Park.

The 2K children's team run will begin at 9 a.m. with registration one hour before the event in Victoria Park.

Forms are available from Sportseller and International Sports Shop. There is no entry fee.
