Red Cross will be moving soon
offices into new premises by September, director Mr. Frank Gamble revealed.
His announcement came following a Development Applications Board decision which has given the charity the green light to convert Charleswood, a former dental surgery on Berry Hill Road, Paget into its new headquarters.
Mr. Gamble said he was extremely pleased with the decision. The Red Cross have proposed no structural additions to the building except for a new parking lot.
With spacious new premises at their disposal, the Red Cross will be expanding its First Aid courses which have proved much in demand.
The DAB also approved plans submitted by J&B Holdings for the construction of a new industrial building on Bakery Lane in Pembroke.
Also approved was the extension of a bus layby at Blue Hole Hill. As a condition of the approval, the DAB instructed that walls be faced with Bermuda stone and the area landscaped.
However, an application by local land developer Mr. Ralph Terceira for stables at his Smith's Parish home was turned down.
Mr. Terceira who once operated dairy, taxi, riding school, service station, property rental and land development businesses on the Island said the stables were intended for private use.
Minutes of the meeting last month revealed Mr. Terceira's plans were not suited to the scale and form of the proposed development.
Furthermore, the Board deemed the height of the structure excessive for an ancillary building.
Mr. Terceira said he had not yet received news of the decision. "I will just have to wait and see,'' he said.
