Attention! Bermuda is set to invade the UK this summer.

For the first time in 15 years the Bermuda Regiment Band will sound off and march into merry old England.

Director of music, Major Barritt Dill said an upcoming 15-day British tour of duty will provide band members with a valuable military and musical education.

"The last time we did a tour like this in England was 15 years ago,'' Major Dill pointed out. "We have nine junior band members who are still in high school or university, so this will be a great experience for them.

"And the trip will provide the senior band members the chance to review and compare ourselves to other bands.'' The band, which is the pride and joy of Bermuda, will arrive in England on July 15 and head straight for Chicksands Barracks in Bedfordshire.

The first four days of their British adventure will have the band tied up in rehearsals and military training.

"Our secondary role is that of internal security,'' explained Major Dill.

"So every morning will start at 6 a.m. with physical exercise.

"In addition to rehearsing, we will spend those days doing exercises like radio/voice procedures and obstacle courses.'' But it will not be all rifle training and drill for the band, they also plan to drum up attention for Bermuda by flying the flag across the British Isles.

"We will participate in the final year of the Royal Tournament at Earl's Court,'' said Major Dill. "The Tournament is an all-round military pageant that will feature the Air Force, Marines and the British Army.

"The band will represent Bermuda at the Tournament.'' The band also plans to make time to serenade the Regiment's first director of music, 98-year-old Major Laurie Dunn at his residence in West Sussex.

"He was the first director of music when the Bermuda Regiment was amalgamated in 1965,'' he explained. "He is quite sharp and has all of his faculties so we will have to make it a top notch performance.'' The troops will also showcase their talents at the Royal Military School of Music -- the home of military music.

"We will perform at the RMM's gala summer concert,'' Major Dill added.

The band's hectic itinerary also includes a performance before 1,500 soldiers at the Royal Anglian Regimental Gathering. The Royal Anglians Regiment, located in Cambridge, is the `sister' regiment of the Bermuda Regiment.

The troops will wrap up their tour of duty with a performance at the Matheson Building in Central London and a presentation before the Friends of the Bermuda Society which will be attended by former Governor Lord Waddington.
