Relief for readers on buses
possibility of keeping the lights on in the vehicles at night.
Ewart Brown said this week he had asked Public Transportation Board director Herman Basden to discuss with his safety officers the proposal that would allow passengers to read on buses.
A representative from the manufacturer of the Government buses -- on a coincidental visit to the Island -- will also be consulted.
Dr. Brown said he had been approached about the problem.
"I asked the Director to look into it,'' he said. "I want Bermudians to read anywhere, even on buses.'' Mr. Basden explained that when the buses' internal fluorescent lights were on, driver's complained of a dangerous glare on the windscreen.
"Yes, we're looking into it,'' he said. "A the end of the day the safety officer will report back.
"These are not coaches which are for comfort and long distances. They're buses with fluorescent lights for short distances.'' Mr. Basden said the glare problem was aggravated by the variability of roadside lighting which abounded Bermuda's 200 miles of roads.
