family after a ten year absence from management the business.

Mr. Donald Richardson Jr., the grandson of the late Mr. Campbell Richardson who first owned the building and started a restaurant 69 years ago, took over management of the business on March 26.

The restaurant was closed for two weeks last month for cleaning up and minor changes. It now has a new sign out front and a new look inside, with white walls and red and white checked tablecloths and curtains.

The walls are decorated with pictures of famous entertainers and well-known Bermudian musicians, parliamentarians and beauty queens, with one shot of the original building, made of tin, which housed Richardson's Restaurant.

Mrs. Olive Trott, who brought in entertainers through her business Olive Trott Productions, is helping her nephew Mr. Richardson during the busy lunch hours.

Mrs. Trott and her husband Kenneth own the building but retired from managing the business ten years ago.

"My nephew has made me the proudest aunt by taking over the business,'' Mrs.

Trott said. "I'm happy to see our old customers dropping by again.'' Mr. Richardson agreed to take over as cook and manager of the business, saying it is what he loves to do. The new menu includes curries, fried rice, fish cakes, fish dinners plus lots of other specials.

Mr. Richardson joined the family business after leaving the construction business. Before that he spent two years running the kitchen at the Southampton Rangers Club, and the year before that as a cook at a restaurant in St. George's.

"I also make casava pies for hotels during the Christmas period,'' he said.

"And I do some catering.'' Richardson's currently has a birthday special on -- $1 off on dinners with a piece of pie on the house -- to celebrate Mr. Richardson's 52nd birthday on Thursday. And the restaurant offers discounts to senior citizens on Wednesdays and Sundays.
