The sailor, believed to have a diabetic condition, had been ill for a day before his ship, the MV Green Ridge , diverted to Bermuda.

He was lifted onto the rescue boat St. David and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Green Ridge was en route from North Carolina to Rotterdam before it diverted to Five Fathom Hole.

Meyer Agencies dealt with the transfer of the man from the ship to hospital.

It added to a busy week for the company which announced new links with Containership Inc. this week.

On Sunday Somer's Isle arrived from Florida carrying 102 containers, including nine refrigerated units. Loose cargo on board included three boats, one truck, 58 bundles of lumber and 10 bundles of steel. It left the same day.

Bermuda Islander's perfect winter record ended on Wednesday when it turned up a day late from Salem, New Jersey.

The boat had been on schedule for the first three months of 1994 despite severe weather conditions in the United States. A spokesman said: "It's ironic that this should happen now.'' It arrived with 79 containers including six refrigerated containers. Container Ship Management reported the arrival of Ocean Ady , the replacement for Oleander , on Monday.

Oleander is in dry dock, Ocean Ady arrived on Monday with a total of 175 containers, a truck, a car, two office trailers and assorted steel. She returns next Monday.

John S. Darrell are agents for the Nada , which arrived laden with 173 cars and 99 cases on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, two ships will arrive containing cement and propane gas.

Espartana arrives at Dockyard with 5,700 metric tonnes of Portland grey cement from Venezuela.

Shell gas tanker EMS Gas arrives with 700 metric tonnes of propane gas and will leave Wednesday.
