Scholarship applications hit 250
a scholarship or financial award this year.
Education Minister Sen. Milton Scott said the department was now going through the process of considering the applications.
They have been received for Bermuda Government Scholarships, Teacher Training Awards, Further Education Awards, Interest Free Student Loans and UK Fee Differential Awards.
Scholarships are awarded on academic merit only but the Teacher Training Awards also take into account the needs of the education system.
Both are worth more than last year, at $15,000 and $10,000 respectively. There are eight scholarships and six Teacher Training Awards to be granted.
For the other categories, financial need is considered, as well as the applicant's academic merit, and awards can vary from $1,000 to as much as $7,500.
The applications will be looked at over the summer by the scholarship committee and final awards will be made in August.
Sen. Scott said: "The scholarship committee will have a busy summer working through all these applications.
"I am pleased to see that so many students are seeking to take advantage of our awards and scholarships. These grants enable some of our best students to continue their education and that must be a good thing for Bermuda's future.''
