And the festival chairman yesterday invited everyone to attend the old fashioned country fair on October 16 and "look back 100 years and wear the styles of our forefathers''.

The festival's theme is Preserving Flatts Village -- Last Year of the Millennium.

The festival will also recognise 1999's role as Year of Older Persons.

Mr. Cowen added: "It is the committee's wish to honour the past and show respect to the people who made Bermuda so unique.'' Last year the festival attracted an estimated crowd of between 5,000 and 7,000 people and there is potential for more this year with the festival partnering up with the Island's jazz festival which is due to take place on October 15 and 16 in the West End.

The two events have been linked in a bid to attract more visitors to the Island.
