Second relief container shipped out
and essential supplies being shipped to Bosnia.
And any of the donations of food which could not fit into the two containers will be given to needy people in Bermuda.
An appeal, launched last month, saw one container filled and shipped by Monday of this week. But the quantity of donations was such that a second container was shipped immediately following the first.
The containers were carried by Bermuda Container Line to New York from where they will be transported across the Atlantic to the port of Rijeka, unaffected by the fighting in what was formerly Yugoslavia.
They will then be trucked to the Bosnian Government's Department of Economic and Humanitarian Affairs, which has a logistic centre in Split.
Organiser of the appeal, Mrs. Lucy Willitts said: "We shall remain outside Lindo's (supermarket) until Saturday evening and will now be asking to help needy families on the Island and continue to donate food for the rest of this week.
"On Saturday we would like those in need to come to us on a first-come, first-serve basis.
`Hundreds of caring people have given for the appeal for Bosnia and we would now like to give something back to Bermuda.
"We are especially appreciative of the media which has contributed so much to the success of the appeal.''
