A Harbour Radio spokesman said a doctor aboard the Catherine Elizabeth requested an emergency pick up when the 40-foot yacht was 100 miles northwest of the Island.
The Iberian oil tanker Glen Roy was en route to Philadelphia and diverted to pick up the 54-year old man.
Upon arriving in local waters around 11 p.m. Thursday, the sick man and his doctor were transferred to Ordnance Island, St. George's and eventually taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
