Singer Stevie Wonder to speak at child aid
support the Island's participation in Child Aid.
The live telephone link, which will be broadcast over a PA system at City Hall, aims to raise awareness of children suffering all over the world because of war.
Child Aid committee member Mr. Glenn Fubler will talk to the star and have a conversation with Ms Dena Kaye, daughter of the late entertainer Danny Kaye, and an ambassador for the United Nations Childrens' Fund.
He said: "Stevie Wonder was contacted by the group because of his committment to human rights especially concerning children.'' Bermudians will be asked to observe a minute's silence, at 1 p.m., and motorists are asked to turn on their headlights.
At the lunchtime City Hall Ceremony a choir will perform Michael Jackson's "Heal the World''. Picture on Page 10 .
Child Aid committee member Ms Connie Benjamin said the project now only raises money for the children they are seeking to help, but it also allows young Bermudians to showcase their talents abroad.
Speeches will be made by Education Minister the Hon. Gerald Simons, Opposition Leader Mr. Frederick Wade, Mayor of Hamilton the Wor. Cecil Dismont and Canon James Francis.
