Student government

Bermuda College is "to get people to know what we are here for.'' so says student government president, Nathan Samuels. "Since we are so young students still have to get accustomed to the idea.'' Mr. Samuels explained "and since unlike the American system we don't have this sort of thing in high school, it is not that easy for Bermuda College students to just understand what it is all about.'' Mr. Samuels started at the Bermuda College in the Arts & Science programme in 1998 and that year he was elected as senator to the Student Council. "I was a senator at large and was there to serve as a voice for the students.'' Mr.

Samuels recalled.

"Trying to get things done for people'' is the main motivator for Mr. Samuels being involved in the Student Government. He has a plan to achieve this through the student government.

"One of our main tasks is to get people to know what we are here for and we have a campaign were we aim to do just that.'' he said. "One of our major accomplishments last year was that we got a seat on the Board of Governors, but we want too see more students on committees and boards that exist around the College.'' "We organised Spirit Day last year which was just a fun afternoon of races & food stalls.'' he said. "This year we plan to have a lot more social events and this will help to increase awareness about student government.'' Responsible for the operation of the student union building, which includes the cafeteria, games room and student lounge, the Bermuda College student government is learning practical management skills.
