Students take music exams
Music took place in Bermuda for about 25 local students on Saturday.
Bermudian representative for RCM, Marlene Campbell, hosted the examinations at her South Road home, which were adjudicated by Toronto resident Clifford Crawley, a well-known composer/musician of the RCM.
Due to a generous grant from the Bermuda Arts Council and organisation on the part of teachers from Dunbartan School of Music, and participating teachers from the Suzuki school of Music, these examinations were made possible.
The RCM has been an important music training force in North America for over a century and assists in the education of over 250,000 students annually. If anyone has any queries about the RCM programme in Bermuda contact Mrs.
Campbell at 293-3180.
*** The Bermuda National Gallery has several lunchtime lectures planned this month.
On Wednesday Graham Garton, director of the Bermuda Philharmonic, will present a talk and presentation on composer Paul Hindemith's (1895-1963) symphony "Mathis der Maler'' and the link with German artist, Mathias Grunewald's alter painting "Concert of angels'' on which the opera and then symphony were written.
No classical music lover should miss this opportunity to learn more of this interesting story.
On February 12 Maurine Cooper returns with a slide lecture on one of her favourite subjects, Winslow Homer.
This will be `Part II'' of the slide lecture she did in the Fall on Homer. And on February 19 Richard Fell will be performing the wonderfully humorous "Revolting Rhymes and Dirty Beasts'' by the celebrated author Roald Dahl.
Most famous for books such as "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'', "Matilda'' and "James and the Giant'', some of the lesser works such as this one are amongst his most brilliant.
There will be a `meet the artist' discussion with Bermudian-born Reid Cooper, now living in Canada, who is back home conducting a workshop at the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard. The subject is silk screen printing.
