Students win visit to camp
winning the 1994 World Affairs Essay Contest.
The contest which is organised by Camp Wonposet in Litchfield, Connecticut awarded grand prize winner Imani J. Myers, first runner up Vicki Pereira and honourable mention winner Laurie Burns scholarships to attend the camp.
Students aged 7 to 13 could enter the contest by writing an essay about why they would want to go to summer camp with children from around the world. Camp Wonposet has an international programme for young people from over 20 countries.
Directors of the camp Mr. Mark Davis and Mrs. Elizabeth Davis gave a full tuition scholarship to Imani, 50 percent tuition for Vicki and 25 percent tuition for Laurie.
Since 1906 Camp Wonposet has had campers and counsellors from all over the world, who represent a variety of interests and backgrounds. It teaches campers to respect different ideas and cultures.
The camp's intercultural educational programme is recognised around the world.
It has educational alliances with the Institute of World Affairs, The World Bank, The United Nations, and the Family Liaison Office of the US State Department.
