Tavern offers `spotted dick' and other pub favourites from England
When most people think of food that is good for them their mind wonders to rice cakes and `rabbit' food. The Hunt Club defies this mind trend with healthy dishes that people will enjoy eating. Tantalising appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and other great treats fill the Tavern's menu. The Hunt Club Tavern caters to the person who wishes to eat a healthy meal that tastes good.
Their food is not greasy and they try to cook food in its own juices to cut down on fat. The Tavern is similar to a New England-style country inn with home-style cooking. "The food is satisfying and friendly. "It's very hard to cook `normal' food well, one had to be very creative. The chefs in the Tavern's kitchen do very well,'' said Mr. Butz. Meals are homemade at the Tavern. Bread is baked and desserts are made fresh everyday. The produce the Tavern uses is locally grown. Imported produce is only used when absolutely necessary, he said. Six main Smith's Parish farmers supply the Tavern with fresh produce such as potatoes, vegetables and Bermuda onions. And two local fishermen supply the Tavern with fresh Bermuda fish daily, thus, the Tavern serves fresh fish everyday. Breakfast lunch and dinner are served daily and a traditional Bermuda codfish breakfast is served on Sunday mornings. Even though the Tavern has only been open for little over five weeks, it has already acquired a few regular visitors. Dishes that have become popular among the `regulars' are the St. David's mussel pie, the fresh mussels Portuguese style, and the baked stuffed lamb. In the way of desserts the, spotted dick and bread & butter pudding have scored high with diners. The Tavern's dinner menu is filled with health-full dishes and is a mixture of Bermudian, English and American cuisine. The Tack Room Bar serves a wide range of drinks and food. Traditional Yellow Bird and Rum Swizzles are blended along with an assortment of bottled beers. Specialty drinks include the Stirrup Cup, Hunt Club Traditional Bloody Mary, Dusty Trails, The Master's Favourite. A happy hour is held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at $2.75 a drink plus gratuities. From 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., The `Pub Grub' menu is served which includes dishes such as `The Hunt Club Super Munch' and `The Master's Own Ploughman's Lunch'.
