Taxi drivers complaints `ignored'
aside by successive transport ministers, it was claimed yesterday.
Ex-president of the Bermuda Taxi Owners Union Lt. Col. Eugene Raynor said problems with picking up passengers had been ignored.
"The response has just not been good enough,'' he said.
Lt. Col. Raynor spoke out following claims that Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan had rapped Transport Minister the Hon. Ralph Marshall for failing to act on problems at the terminal.
These include reports of chaos as cabbies ply their trade with no organised pick-up procedure.
Sir John is understood to have warned the problems could become an electoral liability.
The criticism is thought to have been made in front of a United Bermuda Party caucus last month.
"I would like to suggest the Premier's criticism of the Transport Minister is well deserved,'' said Lt. Col. Raynor.
Lt. Col. Raynor said he had voiced similar concerns while president of his union from 1985 to 1991. But his worries were not heeded.
