Jeffrey Wetzler of the Monitor Company yesterday said he hoped that a comprehensive transportation brochure, containing information on all the Island's transportation options, will be completed by the end of March.

"By the end of March we hope a guide will be in press,'' Mr. Wetzler said.

Yesterday, taxi drivers got a look at a draft copy of the brochure, which will mark the first time taxis will be marketed like other services.

"It will help us be on a level playing field,'' one driver said. "It will let people compare the prices and make an informed choice.'' The two-part flyer will feature one side with maps highlighting the different transportation routes and locations of various taxi stands around the Island.

The other side will summarise the transportation options open to visitors as well as list the "pros and cons'' of each type of transportation service.

"This is very nice,'' one taxi driver said of the draft brochure. "It's a good presentation.'' The forthcoming map is the result of research which revealed that visitors were confused about on-Island transportation because they did not know what transportation options they had.

Monitor then asked transport providers to fill in blank maps with information about their own services.

The project should also help unite the separate transport providers and stop them from competing with one another.
