Union President Derrick Burgess announced on Thursday that several drivers and owners had joined the BIU and elected an executive committee to the taxi division.

He said new branch president David Bean and vice-president Neville Darrell would represent drivers in dealings with Government.

Joe Brown, president of the Bermuda Taxi Federation, called a meeting of BTF committee members for Monday night to discuss the new link-up.

He said: "I don't know anything about this new division of the BIU and that's why we've convened the meeting.

"We've called the executive committee members together just to find out what is going on.'' He said Mr. Brown was also invited to join the union.
