TCD suffering some problems
The Transport Control Department hope their new hi-tech computer system will eventually lead to expansion into Post Offices across the Island -- making life easier for motorists and easing the strain at TCD offices.
But a series of glitches in the new system have meant the outreach project has been put on hold for several months.
TCD director Donald Dane said they had expected teething troubles with the computer but not as many problems as had been experienced.
He said meetings were taking place each week with the computer suppliers to iron out the difficulties.
It would be November at the latest before the trial outposts -- Warwick and Crawl -- come on line.
It will mean motorists will be able to carry out all their licensing requirements without visiting the North Street centre -- which has long suffered from congestion and delays.
"The work is not going as quickly as we thought but we are still working on it,'' he said.
"We didn't expect as many teething troubles as we had.'' Once the computer difficulties are ironed out, then staff will be converted to become both cashiers and clerks, so customers will only have to visit one counter.
LETTER WRITER SLAMMED BUC Letter writer slammed An audio technician blasted the author of a letter to the Editor who said his company played music too loud.
Jonathan Trott of Spanish Town sound this week claimed that his technicians had " done tons of events and had never had any complaints before''.
The letter, which appeared in The Royal Gazette on August 7, complained that Spanish Town's background music for Harbour Nights was so loud it could be causing ear damage to the audience.
But Mr. Trott said the company used barriers to keep the audience six to eight feet from the speakers.
A spokeswoman for the Chamber of Commerce said there had been no complaints about noise and they were pleased with Spanish Town's work.
Mr. Trott said: "The bottom line is if we were doing bad work we would not be doing so much in the community.'' Spanish Town has also provided audio for Labour Day festivities, all West End Development Corporation functions, the World Rugby Classic and the Excel Tennis Classic.
