The Bermuda Musical & Dramatic Society has announced its schedule of staged play readings for February and March, for which auditions are being held

Local Murder, written by Peter Whalley and directed by Angela Gentleman, takes place on February 24 and 25. Neil Simons' Barefoot in the Park, directed by Sue Bailey, will follow on March 2 and 3, and on March 9 and 10 Connie Gault's Sky will be directed by Derek Keeping. The schedule will end with Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit, directed by Jacqui Draycott, on March 23 and 24.

*** Concepts in Motion is the next offering in the Bermuda Festival Fringe series.

Featuring the In Motion School of Dance, it will take place at City Hall theatre on February 5 at 8 p.m. Tickets ($30 adult, $25 student) will be sold at the door. For further information telephone 292-9447.

*** Producer Charles Bascombe will host his ninth Evening of Jazz on March 10 and 11 at City Hall Theatre.

Heading the programme will be the acclaimed Danilo Perez Trio. Panamian-born pianist Perez is renowned for his distinctive ability to infuse traditional jazz songs and his own compositions with diverse Latin influences -- a style he describes as "jazz with rice and beans''.

Local performers sharing the programme include vocalist Sonda Choudhury, pianist Ronald Lightbourne, and MC Derek "C.J.'' Symonds.

Tickets (patrons $50, general admission $40) are available from 27th Century Boutique, People's Pharmacy, and Captain G. Part proceeds will be donated to the Bermuda College.

*** Due to overwhelming interest, The Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard is running two additional printmaking workshops on February 26 and March 12 at a cost of $75 per session. They will introduce basic printmaking techniques and enable participants to use the Arts Centre's new press.

*** Hasty Puddings Theatricals has named Billy Crystal and Jamie Lee Curtis as Man and Woman of the Year, 2000. Curtis will receive her "Pudding Pot'' on February 10, and Crystal his on February 17.
