The future of dancehall reggae
performances by an all compact disc DJ group.
In an art form that has stuck to its guns and continues to use the inexpensive to produce vinyl records -- hot new music is produced on "dub plates'' -- the Toronto based Chemical Nitro-Da CD Sound admittedly push the envelope.
But the four-member crew have been warmly welcomed in Jamaica, where contrary to the group's confident estimation that it would take six months to gain a foothold, they were the buzz of the party scene within two months.
Nitro has promised to bring a full selection of music as well as dub plates featuring guest appearances by reggae, rap, and R&B performers.
Nitro, made up of MCs Jeff and Brown, and Ring Ding, Georgy, Andy, and Coco as selectors or disk jockeys, will perform two shows next Saturday (December 18) at the Number One Shed in Hamilton.
A special alcohol-free matinee event, "It's all that'', will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. for young people up to age 17.
Beginning at 10 p.m., Nitro will perform in the Harbour Room, for people aged 18 and up in "The Christmas Player's Party Two''. There will be no re-entry.
New Reformed Productions will host the two events. Top Bermuda DJs, Playbwoy, will take to the stage with Nitro.
The hosts intend for the youth event to end in time for the start of the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute's Christmas Boat Parade in Hamilton Harbour, which a spokesman said would lead to a "continuous, happy, and beautiful day for all concerned''.
Tickets for "It's all that'' are $8 in advance from Toys and Stuff, Dub City Records, Music World, Jeans Plus Boutique, Staples, and Spence Hair Designs.
At the door the cost will be $10. Advance ticket purchasers will be eligible for special raffles drawn throughout the afternoon. Champion Security will be provided.
For "Christmas Player's Party Two'' tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. There will be free giveaways by both Nitro and Playbwoy throughout the evening.
