The pudding's back!
Theatricals -- Romancing the Throne.
The Harvard lads (or should we say, lasses?) continue their long association with Bermuda when their annual engagement opens at City Hall tomorrow evening.
Since its formation in 1795, the Hasty Pudding Club has become famous for its undergraduate theatricals. Past budding thespians have included Oliver Wendell Holmes, William Randolph Hearst and Jack Lemmon, who starred in the 1946 production of Proof of the Pudding.
In 1889, J.P. Morgan was the business manager for their production of The Duenna and Alan Jay Lerner composed the 1938 and 1939 shows.
The Pudding's Woman of the Year and Man of the Year, created in 1951 and 1963 respectively, have brought the top names in the entertainment world to the little theatre on Holyoke Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This year, Whoopi Goldberg and Chevy Chase were given the honours.
The 145th show, Romancing the Throne, opens tomorrow, March 31, with performances on April 1, 2, 3 and 5, commencing at 8 p.m.
Tickets at $20 are available from the Visitors Service Bureau, open between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., telephone 295-1727.
