Thousands pack Front Street for star gazing

By Nicole Williams Smith A galaxy of stars descended on Front Street last night to kick off the Samuel L. Jackson Celebrity Golf Classic. And Bermudians turned out in the thousands to catch a glimpse of their favourite celebrities.

"It was nice to come out and see so many familiar faces from the television and movie world,'' one woman said.

"It was exciting,'' said 19-year-old Makese Gilbert of Devonshire. "My favourite part was seeing Nick (Joshua Morrow) from the Young and the Restless -- he signed my shirt.'' Pulp Fiction star and keen golfer Samuel Jackson thanked the crowd, which he estimated to be around ten percent of the Island's population, for their support of his second golf classic.

"Let's prove to the world that 3Bermuda is the place to be,'' he added.

The golf classic, which runs until Sunday, will raise money for a range of Bermudian charities, as well as the Catalog for Giving, an umbrella organisation in New York which helps get needy kids off the street and into self improvement programmes.

In addition to last night's festivities, the classic will feature a host of other events over the next three days, including a beach party at the Elbow Beach Hotel, a comedy show and a celebrity gala dinner.

But last night it was announced that all of the evening events, except a few tickets to Saturday's gala dinner, had already sold out.

And it was revealed that not all of the stars, like "Baywatch'' beauty Carmen Electra, had yet to arrived for the event.
